Friday 1 February: Contrasts (Clarinet, violin and piano)

Paul and Yoko Gregory

Steve Dummer (clarinet), Rachel Ellis (violin) and Yoko Ono (piano) play music inspired by the folk traditions of Eastern Europe, closing with a performance of one of the classics of twentieth-century music: Bartók’s Contrasts, commissioned by Benny Goodman and Joseph Szigeti. Also included are works by the New York based composer-clarinettist Derek Bermel, who has travelled extensively throughout Bulgaria studying its folk traditions; Leó Weiner, the great Hungarian composer and teacher; and other chamber music by Bartók, including the popular Romanian Folk Dances and new arrangements of a selection of his violin duos for violin and clarinet.

Friday 15 February: Yuri Paterson-Olenich (piano)
